How agencies and resellers find new clients without buying lead lists
Agencies and white-label resellers can find new clients by building their own prospect lists from public local business listings, one niche and city at a time, instead of buying shared lists. With LeadFinder you search a niche and city, add the businesses you want to the built-in CRM, filter to those with an email, and send a campaign from your own mailbox.
Why do bought lead lists disappoint agencies?
Buying a lead list feels like a shortcut. In practice, agencies run into the same problems again and again:
- You do not know how fresh it is. Businesses close, move and change numbers. A list collected long ago quietly fills with dead ends.
- Other people bought it too. The same businesses get the same pitch from several agencies in the same week.
- It does not match your niche. Generic lists are built for everyone, so you spend hours filtering out businesses you would never sell to.
- You cannot see why each lead is there. A row with a name and an email tells you nothing about whether the business needs you.
Building your own list from public local business listings fixes most of this. You choose the niche and the city, you see the details of each business before you contact it, and you run the search again whenever you need a fresh list.
What makes a good prospect for an agency?
The best prospects show a visible gap that you fix. A local business search gives you several signals straight from the results:
- No website listed. A strong lead for web design and hosting.
- A website but no social profiles found. A natural opening for social media management.
- A low rating. A reason to talk about reviews and reputation.
- A generic info@ address only. Often a small team where the owner reads the inbox, so keep the message personal and short.
Pick one gap per campaign. "We noticed you do not have a website" is a far better opening line than a list of every service you offer.
Worked example: IT services in Chennai, from search to campaign
Here is the full path for an agency that sells websites and local marketing, prospecting IT services firms in Chennai.
1. Search the niche and the city
Search IT services in Chennai. A search shows 60 results on paid plans, each with name, address, phone, website, rating and category. "Load 60 more" fetches the next batch, and "Widen area" grows the search area 1.6 times per click (up to 3 times, capped at 160 km across). Each uses one search, refunded if the batch brings back no new businesses. In the LeadFinder team's own test, this search reached 600 leads. That is one test search, not a guaranteed number, but it shows how far a single niche in a large city can go.
2. Save the firms you want to the CRM
Searches are not saved automatically. On Pro and Premium, click Add to CRM or save the firms you want to a list, and they become contacts and companies in the built-in CRM. Anyone you email in a campaign is added too. You do not copy anything into a spreadsheet.
3. Enrich and check emails
LeadFinder reads each business's website for public emails, phone numbers and social profiles, and gives every email a badge: valid format, working mail server, and flags for disposable or generic role addresses.
4. Filter to the businesses you can email
Filter the CRM by has email and save it as a view, for example "Chennai IT, has email". Use the column picker to show only what you need, such as website, rating and email. Save a second view with no email as a call list.
5. Find named contacts for the best prospects
For your top ten or so firms, use people lookups to find a named contact at the company. Pro includes 10 people lookups a month and Premium 40, and packs add more.
6. Send a campaign from your own mailbox
Connect your mailbox (Gmail in one click, or any mail server over SMTP) and send a campaign. A campaign sends one email to each recipient, replies land in your own inbox, and a reply stops any other queued campaign emails to that person. Pro includes 1 sending mailbox and 2,000 campaign emails a month; Premium includes 3 mailboxes and 10,000. The cold email guide covers setup, and the SMTP setup guide lists server settings for common providers.
7. Track every conversation
Each contact page keeps a timeline and history, so anyone on your team can see who was contacted, when, and what happened next.
How do white-label resellers use LeadFinder?
Agencies that resell marketing software under their own brand usually sell a bundle, such as listings, reviews, social posting and websites, to one kind of local business at a time. LeadFinder fits that model:
- One list per bundle. Search the niches your bundle suits best, for example dentists for a reviews package or restaurants for a listings package.
- One territory per rep. Give each salesperson their own city and a saved view, so territories do not overlap.
- Bring what you already have. Import existing contacts from CSV or Excel, up to 25,000 rows at a time. Export lists as CSV, or the CRM as CSV or Excel, for your other tools.
What should the first email to a prospect say?
Keep it short, specific and easy to answer. A simple structure that works for agencies:
Hi, I found [Business] while looking at IT firms in Chennai. Your listing does not show a website, so people searching for you cannot see your services. We build simple, fast sites for IT firms. Would a two-page site be useful? If not, just reply "no" and I will not email you again.
Notice what it does: it says where you found them, names one visible gap, makes one offer and gives an easy way out. It does not claim results you cannot prove.
How many prospects can an agency work each month?
Plan in searches, not leads. The Free plan includes 2 searches a month (20 results per search, and no campaigns), Pro 150 and Premium 400 (fair use), with 60 results per search on paid plans. Premium also offers deeper full-city search with twice the coverage. If a busy month needs more, packs of 25, 50 or 100 searches or people lookups are one-time purchases. See the pricing guide for prices in INR, USD and CAD.
What about anti-spam rules?
Email outreach is covered by laws such as CAN-SPAM in the US, CASL in Canada, GDPR in the EU and UK, and India's DPDP Act. Identify yourself honestly, offer a clear way to opt out and respect it. You are responsible for following the rules where you and your prospects are; this is general information, not legal advice.
